(FILES) This file photo taken on February 2, 2009 shows a Harley-Davidson motorcycle displayed at a Harley-Davidson store in St. Paul, Minnesota.
US motorcycle giant Harley-Davidson on August 18, 2016 entered a $15 million settlement with US authorities who accused the company of making and selling illegal devices that increased air pollution from its bikes. The company, the iconic American manufacturer large and loud motorcycles, agreed to buy back and cease selling so-called " super tuners, " which improved performance but increased hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxide emissions.

However, behind this picturesque scene lies a controversy that shook the motorcycle industry. In 2016, US authorities accused Harley-Davidson of producing and selling illegal devices known as "super tuners" which enhanced performance but also increased air pollution from their bikes. As part of this agreement, Harley-Davidson committed to buying back and discontinuing sales of these emission-cheating devices. The photograph serves as a reminder that even revered brands can face challenges and controversies along their journey. It highlights how environmental concerns have become increasingly important in today's world, prompting stricter regulations for industries across various sectors.
