Lakes Collection

Lakes in Rwanda, Africa are an important part of the country's geography and economy. The largest lake is Lake Kivu, which is located on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and is a freshwater lake with a maximum depth of 480 meters and covers an area of 2,700 square kilometers. Other lakes in Rwanda include Burera, Ruhondo, Muhazi, Ihema and Bulera. These lakes provide water for drinking, irrigation and fishing for local communities as well as providing hydroelectric power to the region. They also attract tourists who come to enjoy activities such as swimming, boating and bird watching. The Rwandan government has taken steps to protect these vital resources by implementing conservation measures such as banning certain types of fishing nets that can damage fish stocks or introducing regulations regarding water usage.
