Debre Birhan is a city located in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia (formerly known as Abyssinia), and is the capital of the Semien Shewa Zone and has a population of over 100,000. The city is known for its religious significance, as it was once home to Emperor Menelik II who founded the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and is home to many historical sites including churches, monasteries and castles.
