EDITORS COMMENTS
Micheline Presle, born Micheline Chassagne on February 21, 1922, was a renowned French film actress who graced the silver screen for over six decades. In this photograph, Presle exudes an air of sophistication and elegance as she performs in an undated production. Born in Paris, France, Presle's acting career began in the late 1930s, and she quickly rose to fame in the 1940s and 1950s. Her talent and versatility allowed her to excel in various genres, from romantic comedies to dramas and thrillers. Presle's early films include "Les Amants Sont Comme Les Bois" (1943) and "Le Dernier Tournant" (1943), which showcased her natural beauty and charisma. However, it was her role in the classic French film "Les Enfants Terribles" (1949), directed by Jean-Pierre Melville, that solidified her place in film history. Throughout her career, Presle worked with some of the most influential directors of her time, including Jean Cocteau, Marcel Carné, and Yves Robert. She was also known for her collaborations with her then-husband, actor Jean-Marie Serreau, with whom she appeared in several films, including "La Vérité Sur Bébé Donge" (1952) and "Les Amants de Minuit" (1954). Despite her success in the film industry, Presle's personal life was marked by tragedy. She lost her only child, a son named Patrick, in a car accident in 1962. This loss deeply affected her, and she retired from acting for several years before returning to the screen in the late 1960s. Presle continued to act until the late 1980s, appearing in films such as "La Mère" (1983) and "La Vieille Fille" (1987). She passed away on February 24, 2014, at the age of 92, leaving behind a rich legacy in French cinema. This photograph is a testament to her enduring talent and the indelible mark she left on the world of film.
