Born on February 15, 1866, in Wiesbaden, Germany, Von Wassermann is best known for developing the serological diagnostic test that bears his name, the Wassermann test. This test revolutionized the diagnosis of syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease that was a major public health concern during the early 20th century. The image, taken in 1925, shows Von Wassermann in his later years with a prominent moustache and a serious expression.
