The Paris Commune was a radical socialist and democratic government that ruled Paris from March 18 to May 28, 1871, following the Franco-Prussian War and the abdication of Napoleon III. The Zouaves were a distinctive military unit in the French army, known for their colorful uniforms and North African origins.
