Constructed under the reign of Ptolemy II Philadelphus around 280-247 BC, this architectural marvel was a gift to the seafarers and sailors who navigated the treacherous waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Designed by the brilliant architect Sostratus of Sidon, the lighthouse stood proudly on the island of Pharos, just off the coast of Alexandria in Egypt.
