Wambierzyce - Poland

Wambierzyce (Vamberic / Vamberice), the Silesian Jerusalem, is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in southern Poland. The wooden statue of Our Lady, dating from the thirteenth century, was originally placed in a mighty linden tree located at this site (as pictured here). According to the legend a blind man regained his eyesight after praying before the statue (see illustration). The first wooden chapel was built in 1263 followed by a larger church, destroyed during the Thirty Years War. The fourth and present church (in Baroque style) was built in the early 18th century. In 1936 the church received the status of a Basilica minor from Pope Pius XI and in 1980, Pope John Paul II awarded the Madonna of Wambierzyce the title of Queen of Families

EDITORS COMMENTS
Wambierzyce, also known as Vamberic or Vamberice, is a significant pilgrimage site located in southern Poland, renowned for its rich history and deep religious significance. The print showcases the beautiful and tranquil surroundings of this sacred place, with the mighty linden tree standing proudly in the foreground. According to a cherished legend, a blind man once regained his sight after praying before the wooden statue of Our Lady, which was originally housed in this very tree. The first wooden chapel was erected at this site in 1263, and over the centuries, it grew into a larger church, which was unfortunately destroyed during the Thirty Years War. The present-day church, constructed in the early 18th century in the Baroque style, stands majestically at the site, having been bestowed with the title of a Basilica minor by Pope Pius XI in 1936. In 1980, Pope John Paul II further honored the Madonna of Wambierzyce by granting it the title of Queen of Families. The print transports us back in time, allowing us to imagine the devotion and faith of the pilgrims who have visited this site for centuries. The linden tree, a symbol of strength and resilience, stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and the miraculous stories that have shaped the history of Wambierzyce. This beautiful and spiritual location continues to draw visitors from all corners of the world, offering a moment of peace and reflection amidst the bustling world outside.
