1707 1751 Frederick I Ii Oval Sash

EDITORS COMMENTS
This elegant oval print showcases a portrait of Frederick, Louis, Prince of Wales (1707-1751), the eldest son of King George II and father of King George III. The prince is depicted in regal attire, wearing a red sash adorned with the Order of the Garter, a symbol of high honor in the British monarchy. The year 1751 is inscribed at the bottom of the print, marking the year of Frederick's untimely death at the age of 49. Frederick Louis was born in London on January 1, 1707, during the reign of his grandfather, King James II. He was raised in the shadow of his father, who ascended to the throne in 1714. Despite his father's favoritism towards his younger brother, Prince William, Frederick was a popular figure among the people due to his charisma and military prowess. In 1728, Frederick married Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, with whom he had 15 children, including the future King George III. However, their marriage was not a happy one, and Frederick's extravagant lifestyle and political ambitions often put him at odds with his father. Despite his personal struggles, Frederick played a significant role in British history. He served as the Lord High Admiral and the Commander-in-Chief of the British Army, and his military campaigns in Scotland and Ireland helped to secure the British throne for his son. Tragically, Frederick died on March 31, 1751, at the age of 49, leaving behind a legacy as a charismatic and capable prince who helped to shape the future of the British monarchy. This beautiful print serves as a testament to his regal presence and historical significance.
