This stunning 18th-century print captures the breathtaking view toward St. Mark's Square in Venice, Italy, on Ascension Day in 1732. The return of the Bucentoro, the traditional gondola used by the Doge of Venice during the Venetian Republic, is depicted as it makes its way back to the Molo, the waterfront quay, after the religious procession. The iconic St. Mark's Campanile, a symbol of Venice's rich history and architectural grandeur, stands tall in the background, its bell tower reaching for the heavens. The Doge's Palace, with its ornate Gothic façade, is also visible on the left side of the square. The return of the Bucentoro was a significant event in Venetian history and culture.
