EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: The Enchanting Islets of Perast - Kotor Bay, Montenegro: A Timeless Beauty from the 1910s 2. Description: This evocative photograph captures the breathtaking allure of the two islets off the picturesque coastal town of Perast, nestled in the stunning Kotor Bay, Montenegro. The islets, known as Gospa od Skrpjela (Our Lady of the Rocks) and Sveti Dorde (Saint Dorde), have been captivating visitors for centuries with their unique origins and enchanting beauty. Gospa od Skrpjela, the smaller of the two islets, is home to a beautiful baroque church dedicated to the Madonna and the Cross, which is said to have been built upon a rock that appeared in the sea after a vision in 1452. The legend goes that local seafarers found an icon of the Madonna and Child in their nets, and, as a sign of gratitude, they placed the icon on a rock and built a church around it. Over the centuries, the islet grew as seafarers continued to add rocks to the site. Sveti Dorde, the larger of the two islets, is believed to have been created in a similar manner, with rocks collected from sunken ships. The islet is named after Saint Dorde, a hermit who is said to have lived there in the 5th century. This photograph, taken circa 1910s, offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the islets' timeless beauty and the tranquility of the Kotor Bay. The image invites us to imagine the rich history and stories that lie within these enchanting islets, making it a must-see destination for anyone visiting Montenegro.
