The trio, all dressed in their finest work attire, stand before the partially completed structure with an air of accomplishment and determination. Mr. Charles Lucas, the eldest of the three, is seen in the center, with Mr. Thomas Lucas on his right and Mr. John Kelk on his left. The International Exhibition of 1862, held in London, was a significant event in the history of the city and the world. The exhibition showcased the latest advancements in science, technology, and industry from around the globe. The building, designed by Joseph Paxton, was a marvel of its time, with its distinctive glass and iron structure and expansive size. Mr. Charles Lucas and his brothers, Thomas and Edward, were prominent builders in London during the 19th century. They had previously worked on various projects, including the construction of the Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition of 1851. Their expertise and experience made them the ideal choice for the construction of the International Exhibition Building. Mr. John Kelk, also a seasoned builder, joined the team as a contractor, bringing his own unique skills and knowledge to the project. Together, the three men oversaw the erection of the building, which was completed on time and within budget, despite numerous challenges and setbacks. This photograph is a testament to their hard work, perseverance, and dedication to their craft.
