1. Title: Sir Isaac Heard, Garter King of Arms (1730-1822) Sir Isaac Heard (1730-1822) was an esteemed herald and a significant figure in the history of British heraldry. He served as Garter King of Arms, the highest-ranking herald in the College of Arms, from 1773 until his retirement in 1822. The Garter King of Arms was responsible for granting and registering new coats of arms, as well as maintaining the records of existing ones. He also played a crucial role in the coronation ceremonies of British monarchs and other important state occasions. Sir Isaac Heard was born in London and was educated at Westminster School before joining the College of Arms as a junior herald in 1751. He rose through the ranks, becoming Rouge Dragon Pursuivant in 1760, Richmond Herald in 1763, and Norroy and Ulster King of Arms in 1772. He was eventually appointed Garter King of Arms in 1773, a position he held for over 50 years. During his tenure, Sir Isaac Heard oversaw the production of numerous official documents and records related to heraldry and genealogy. He also played a key role in the design and execution of the coronation of King George III in 1761 and that of King George IV in 1821. Sir Isaac Heard was known for his meticulous attention to detail and his extensive knowledge of heraldry. He was also a prolific writer, publishing several works on heraldic and genealogical subjects. His most notable publication was "The Complete Peerage," which remains an essential reference work in the field of British genealogy.
