Sinop - Turkey

Sinop is a city Ince Burun (Cape Ince), by its Cape Sinop (Sinop Burnu, Boztepe Cape, Boztepe Burnu) which is situated on the most northern edge of the Turkish side of Black Sea coast, in the ancient region of Paphlagonia, in modern-day northern Turkey, historically known as Sinope. It is the capital of Sinop Province. In November 1853, at the start of the Crimean War, in the Battle of Sinop, the Russians, under the command of Admiral Nakhimov, destroyed an Ottoman frigate squadron in Sinop, leading Britain and France to declare war on Russia. Sinop Fortress Prison, was a state prison situated in the inside of the Sinop Fortress in Sinop, Turkey. As one of the oldest prisons of Turkey, it was established in 1887 within the inner fortress of the centuries-old fortification located on the northwestern part of Cape Sinop. The prison was closed down in 1997

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the beauty and history of Sinop, Turkey. Situated on the most northern edge of the Turkish side of the Black Sea coast, Sinop is a city rich in ancient heritage and historical significance. The city's Cape Ince and Boztepe Cape offer breathtaking views of the sea and harbor. One notable event in Sinop's history was the Battle of Sinop in November 1853, at the start of the Crimean War. The Russians, led by Admiral Nakhimov, destroyed an Ottoman frigate squadron in Sinop, prompting Britain and France to declare war on Russia. The photo also showcases Sinop Fortress Prison, a state prison established within the centuries-old fortification located on Cape Sinop. As one of Turkey's oldest prisons, it served as a place for confinement until its closure in 1997. Sinop serves as the capital of Sinop Province and holds great importance as a region historically known as Paphlagonia. Its ancient walls and fortifications stand as testaments to its past glory. This image offers a glimpse into both the natural beauty and historical significance that define this remarkable city on Turkey's Black Sea coast.
