EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative image depicts Saint Simon the Zealot, one of the original twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. Saint Simon, also known as Simeon or St. Simeon Stylites, is believed to have been born in Cana in Galilee around the 1st century AD. He is often identified as the son of Cleophas or Alpheus, making him the brother of Saint James the Greater. After the crucifixion of Jesus, Saint Simon is said to have traveled extensively, spreading the teachings of Christ in various parts of the ancient world. One of his earliest missions took him to Egypt, where he is believed to have established several monasteries and performed numerous miracles. Later in his life, Saint Simon is believed to have journeyed to Persia, where he faced persecution and was ultimately crucified. The exact details of his death are uncertain, but tradition holds that he was crucified on a cross shaped like an X, or the letter "Tau," which has become a symbol of his martyrdom. This historical print captures the essence of Saint Simon's devotion and courage in spreading the message of Christ, despite the challenges and dangers he faced. The image of a bearded, somber Saint Simon, dressed in the robes of an ascetic, gazes intently into the distance, his hands folded in prayer. The background features a rocky, barren landscape, symbolizing the harsh conditions of his travels and the spiritual trials he endured. Saint Simon's legacy as one of the original followers of Jesus continues to inspire and captivate people around the world, and this print serves as a poignant reminder of his unwavering faith and commitment to spreading the teachings of Christ.
