Nikolay Kamov, Soviet helicopter designer

Nikolay Ilyich Kamov (1902-1973), Soviet helicopter designer. Kamov built his first autogyro in 1929, a breakthrough that led to his later helicopter designs. The test flight of the Ka-8 in 1947 led to Kamov gaining official approval from the Soviet government to build helicopters. This led to the founding of the Kamov design bureau, which developed numerous designs over the following decades.
