Chebarkul meteorite fragments research. Fragments of the Chebarkul meteorite being examined in a laboratory at the nanomaterials and nanotechnologies centre at the Ural Federal University. The meteoroid and meteor (Chelyabinsk Event) that produced these meteorite fragments occurred at around 09:20 local time (03:20 UTC) on 15 February 2013 over Russias Chelyabinsk region. The meteoroid weighed several thousand tons, reaching an altitude of around 20 kilometres before exploding in an airblast. Most fragments found so far are less than a few centimetres across. This print captures the meticulous research being conducted on fragments of the Chebarkul meteorite at the nanomaterials and nanotechnologies centre in Ural Federal University. The meteoroid responsible for these fragments, known as the Chelyabinsk Event, occurred on February 15,2013, over Russia's Chelyabinsk region. Weighing several thousand tons, it reached an altitude of approximately 20 kilometers before exploding in a powerful airblast.
