EDITORS COMMENTS
In this exquisite photograph, Princess Alice of Albany, later Countess of Athlone, is seen in her stunning wedding gown on the special day of her marriage to Prince Alexander of Teck, who would later become the 1st Earl of Athlone. The wedding took place on the 10th of February, 1904, at the historic St. George's Chapel in Windsor. Princess Alice, who was born in 1883, was the eldest daughter of Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, and Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont. Her bridegroom, Prince Alexander, was born in 1874, and was the second son of Prince and Princess of Teck. Princess Alice and Prince Alexander were second cousins once removed, and their union was a significant event in the British royal family. After their marriage, Princess Alice was known as Princess Alexander of Teck. The elegant bridal gown she wore on this day is reminiscent of the Edwardian era, with its intricate beading, lace, and long train. The wedding was a grand affair, attended by members of the royal family and high society, and marked the beginning of a long and happy marriage for the newlyweds. Princess Alice and Prince Alexander went on to have three children together, and she continued to play an active role in royal life until her death in 1981. This beautiful image captures a moment in time, preserving the memory of their wedding day for generations to come.
