EDITORS COMMENTS
"This historic photograph captures the moment of signing the Peace Treaty of Brest-Litovsk between Germany and Austria-Hungary, represented by their foreign secretaries, Richard von Kuhlmann and Count Ottokar Czernin, respectively. The treaty, signed in early 1918, marked the exit of Russia from the First World War. The scene is set in a grand room, with a large bookshelf adorned with volumes lining the wall behind them. Both men are seated at a table, dressed in their military uniforms, with a map spread out before them. The serious expressions on their faces convey the gravity of the negotiation, as they work to bring an end to the devastating conflict. The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was a significant turning point in the war, as it allowed Germany and Austria-Hungary to focus their resources on the Western Front against France and Britain. The signing of this agreement also paved the way for the eventual defeat of the Central Powers. This photograph is a testament to the political maneuvering and diplomacy that took place during the Great War, and serves as a reminder of the complex web of alliances and negotiations that shaped the course of history."
