: Sunshine mellows the battlements of Raglan castle, Monmouthshire (now in Wales). The fortress dates from the 15th century. In 1646, during the Civil War, the Marquess of Worcester held the castle for 10 weeks against the Roundhead forces under Fairfax. The castle was later 'slighted' to prevent its further use. It was the last Royalist castle in England to surrender.
