It is also important for the growth andmaintenance of healthy bones, gums, teeth, ligaments and blood vessels. Vitamin C is involvedin the production of neurotransmitters and in thestimulation of the immune system. The main dietarysources of vitamin C are citrus fruits and greenvegetables. The recommended daily intake for anadult is 30 mg. Severe deficiency leads to scurvy, characterised by swollen bleeding gums andanaemia. Magnification: unknown..
