Veins in a fig leaf, Ficus lyrata

Fig leaf. Macrophotograph of the leaf surfaceand veins of the fiddle-back fig, Ficus lyrata. This fig obtains its name from theshape of the leaves which resemble the body of aviolin. Here, part of a leaf is seen. The veinscontain vascular bundles which transport liquidfood and water to and from the leaf. Smaller veinsbranch diagonally off the main veins, and thesebranch in turn creating a fine and elaboratenetwork.
