An aneurysm is the swelling of part ofan artery due to a weakness in its wall. Theswelling fills with blood and may rupture, withfatal consequences, if left untreated. Treatmentinvolves removing the weakened part of the arteryand replacing it with an artificial graft, whichis held open by a splint-like stent.
