Reintroduction of Trams

For the first time in 67 years, trams are on the City streets of Nottingham as tests begin on the initial stage of a 179 million public transport system, for the porposed launch in January 2004. Testing of the Line One route, which runs between Hucknall and Nottingham, has taken place but today marks the first occasion trams have been seen in the city centre since September 5, 1936. 12/02/04: The new 200 million city centre tram system is finally ready to open to the public, it was confirmed. The first paying passengers will ride on Nottingham's nine-mile section of track on March 9, almost four months after services were due to begin. 09/03/2004 It's four months late and has already suffered a derailment - but a city's new 200 million tram system was Tuesday March 8, 2004 carrying the first paying passengers.
