Launch of Shuttle Atlantis on STS-34

Shuttle Atlantis climbing away from pad 39-B afterlaunch on Mission STS-34 on 18 October 1989 fromthe Kennedy Space Centre, Florida. Atlantiscarried the Galileo Jupiter Exploration Probe intospace, sending it on its six-year long journey tointercept the planet. As it approaches Jupiter, Galileo will release a probe which will parachuteinto the Jovian atmosphere, sending back new dataabout the composition and dynamics of Jupiter'sweather patterns.
