First observation of omega-minus particle

This historic photograph from the 80-inch (200cm)bubble chamber at the Brookhaven National Laborat-ory shows the first observation of the omega-minusparticle, which consists of three strange quarks.A negative kaon enters at bottom left & collideswith a proton in the chamber's hydrogen to produce3 particles, including the omega-minus. The omegatravels a short distance before decaying into anegative pion, which veers to the right across thebottom part of the picture, & a neutral xi partic-le which leaves no track.
