False-colour SEM of Aspergillus niger

False colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) ofthe spore-bearing bodies of the fungus Aspergillus niger. Aspergillus speciesare common in the environment in dust, soil andvegetable material. A. niger is commonly foundin the human outer ear and can become pathogenic, causing otomycosis and otitis externa (irritationand inflammation of the canal between the eardrumand the external opening of the ear). The bluefilaments are hyphae (part of the mycelium orvegetative body of the fungus) and the brownspheres are the spore masses. Magnification: x190at 6x6 cm size..
