Administrators called in by Hartlepool Fabrication said 38 redundancies would be made immediately, but there were hopes of finding a new buyer to save the remaining 55 jobs. Derek Simpson, general secretary of Amicus, said the statue, sited off the A1 near Gateshead, would now become a monument to the "wilful destruction" of British manufacturing..
