Deployment of Hubble Space Telescope from shuttle

Deployment of the Hubble Space Telescope from thespace shuttle Discovery on 24 April, 1990, during mission STS-31. The telescope is stillattached to the shuttle via the remote manipulatorarm (bottom) and is seen unfurling the first ofits two solar panels (foreground). At left is oneof the two dish antennae which will relay commands& data to & from the telescope. The SpaceTelescope will be able to view objects 50 timesfainter and 7 times further away than is possiblewith existing ground-based optical telescopes.
