These chromosomesare at a stage where they have replicated. Thereplicate (copy) and the original are termedchromatids and align parallel to each other, joined at an area called a centromere. The 46human chromosomes hold the DNA that carries thegenetic code, unique for every individual. DNAcontrols the development and functioning of everyliving organism.
