Bubble universes

Bubble universes. Conceptual computer artworkof several 'bubble' universes that may have formedin the early universe. Two of these universes arejoined by a wormhole. All the matter in theuniverse expanded from an infinitely compact state13.7 billion years ago (an event called the BigBang). Inflationary theory proposes that duringthe Big Bang, conditions known as a false vacuumcreated a repulsive force that caused anincredibly rapid expansion, much faster than theordinary expansion observed today. Since thisexpansion is faster than the speed of light, areasof inflation would form bubbles that wouldnormally be completely isolated from each other.This artwork could also represent the creation ofseparate universes as fluctuations in a quantumfoam..
