Brain when hearing

Positron computed tomography (PCT) scans of thebrain, showing the results of 4 types of auditorystimulation. PCT scans depend on the brain's useof glucose to fuel its activity. A volunteer isinjected with a minute dose of a radioactivetracer chemical that binds to glucose molecules inthe blood. The glucose tends to concentrate inparts of the brain where there is increasedactivity (cerebral metabolism), & is detected bythe emission of positron radioactivity from thetracer.
