Brain anatomy. Artwork combining profiles ofbrain and head anatomy. The brain is seen slicedin half to show the internal anatomy. The majorpart of the brain, the cerebrum, includes thefolded outer layer, the cerebral cortex, that produces memory, language and consciousmovement. Central areas of the brain includeregions of the limbic system for the control ofmoods and instinct. Below this is the brainstem, controlling subconscious functionslike breathing. It extends downwards and connectsto the spinal cord in the neck. The cerebellum (at left of the brainstem, round area) is at therear base of the brain.
