Brain. Computer artwork of a human brain (sideview). The front of the brain is at right. Thebrain is the nerve centre that controls bodilyfunctions and thought. The convoluted surfaces ofthe cerebrum are seen here. The cerebrum, the largest and most developed part of the brain, envelops much of the rest of the brain. Its outerlayer is the grey matter of the cerebral cortex, responsible for intelligent thought, language, conscious movement and memory. Thebrainstem, seen emerging from the rest of thebrain at lower left, controls the autonomic(unconscious) body functions such as breathing. Itcontinues downwards to become the spinal cord (notseen)..
