In this historic photograph, Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark, later King Frederick IX, and his bride, the former Princess Ingrid of Sweden, wave to the cheering crowds from the carriage following their marriage in Stockholm on May 24, 1935. The young couple's union marked the end of a long-standing tradition of Danish-Swedish royal intermarriage and the beginning of a new chapter in the history of both countries. Princess Ingrid, born on January 28, 1910, was the eldest daughter of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden and Princess Margaret of Connaught.
