1883 1981 Albany Alice Athlone Countess Helen Leopold Pyrmont Waldeck

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone: A Regal Legacy from the House of Waldeck-Pyrmont" 2.. This photograph captures Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, in the prime of her life, radiating elegance and grace. Born on July 14, 1883, in Detmold, Germany, Alice was the eldest daughter of Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, and Princess Helen of Waldeck-Pyrmont. Her parents were first cousins, making Alice a granddaughter of both Queen Victoria and Emperor Frederick III of Germany. The photograph, taken in 1930, showcases Alice's striking features, with her piercing blue eyes, high cheekbones, and an air of regality that belies her youthful appearance. Her elegant attire, with its high neckline, long sleeves, and intricate beading, further emphasizes her refined and sophisticated demeanor. Alice's life was marked by significant historical events. She was just 21 years old when her father, the Duke of Albany, died in 1893, leaving her and her siblings to be raised by their mother. In 1904, Alice married Prince Alexander of Teck, who later became the Duke of York and, in 1936, King George VI. Alice's younger sister, Princess Marie Louise, married Prince Arthur of Connaught, making the sisters-in-law. After her husband's death in 1955, Alice assumed the title of Countess of Athlone and dedicated herself to charitable work, particularly in support of the Royal Voluntary Service and the Red Cross. She passed away on January 3, 1981, leaving behind a rich legacy as a beloved member of the British royal family and a descendant of the esteemed House of Waldeck-Pyrmont. This evocative image of Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, serves as a reminder of her remarkable life and enduring connection to European royal history.
