In this evocative and intricately detailed woodcut print, Pope Honorius VI, also known as Hadrianus VI or Adriaan Dedel, is depicted in his papal regalia, seated on the throne of St. Peter. Born in Meppel, Netherlands, in 1450, Hadrianus VI was the only Dutchman to ascend to the papacy in the history of the Catholic Church. He served as Pope from 1522 until his death in 1523.
