From his appearance, it is a fair assumption to say this man is 'in tramp'. Whether he is a navvy or not is unclear, but certainly the straw pantry he holds on a stick over his shoulder would be a typical possession used by navvies for storing food and other provisions. It is thought the picture was taken near Charwelton, Northamptonshire.
