High Wycombe Station under construction
This is High Wycombe Station, photographed during its conversion for use on the Great Western & Great Central Joint Line, a scheme undertaken between 1901-05 that provided the Great Central with an alternative route into London. The construction work is in its infancy, although the girders that would later support the station canopy have already been erected. Mackay & Davies of Cardiff was the firm contracted to build this section of the Joint Line (High Wycombe to Princes Risborough). Note the former broad gauge track, a legacy of Brunel's Great Western that has since been changed to standard gauge width.
