Signal gantry, Rugby, Warwickshire
Signal gantry on the London & North Western Railway, Rugby, Warwickshire, circa 1897. The girder bridge behind the gantry was built by the Great Central to carry the London Extension over the LNWR. However, because this bridge obscured the existing signals in use by the LNWR, the Great Central had to build, at its own expense, this huge set of new signals. The gantry was dismantled in 1939. Note the 0-4-0 locomotive about to pass under the bridge.
