Contractors' 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, MERSEY.

Hunslet Engine Co. 0-6-0 saddletank, MERSEY, No. 434 of 1887, pictured at Wembley on 21st May 1905 when working on the Neasden to Northolt link line built by T. Oliver & Son. MERSEY is seen with her crew in a newly excavated cutting close to the site where Sir Edward Watkin would build his Wembley Tower (or Watkin's Folly as it became known), Britain's answer to the Eiffel Tower. The structure was to be even taller than its Parisian counterpart, but unfortunately never made it past the first level. After languishing for many years, the structure was demolished and the site is now home to Wembley Stadium.
