|
Mandatory Credit: Photo by James D. Morgan / Rex Features Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is actively supporting one of the few organisations currently working in Sumatra to save the Sumatran Orangutan from extinction. The Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme was founded by ex Durrell Wildlife staff member Ian Singleton, and is working to secure better protection for orangutans, and their dwindling habitat. Three offspring born in the past fifteen months at Durrell have helped both to raise the profile of the species and boost thecaptive safety net against extinction. Pictured are 29 year old Sumatran orangutan Julitta, with baby daughter Putri, meaning 'Princess' in the Sumatran language, born in May this year.
