HAMPTON COURT PALACE, Richmond upon Thames, London. The palace viewed from the south bank with a passenger vessel moored by the jetty. The site originally belonged to the Knights Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem. The site was acquired by Thomas Wolsey in 1513 who began to make significant alterations. With Wolsey's downfall, the house was acquired by Henry VIII who converted it into a royal palace. Photographed by S W Rawlings (1945-1965).
