Coloured TEM of a Salmonella bacteriumSalmonella sp. Coloured transmission electronmicrograph (TEM) of a Salmonella sp. bacterium. The cell is rod-shaped with longhair-like flagellae. Salmonella bacteriabelong to the Enterobacteriaceae family. Theyare Gram-negative bacilli bacteria that inhabitthe human gut. Salmonella includes the species S. typhi and S. paratyphi ,responsible for typhoid and paratyphoid fever inhumans. Other serotypes are responsible forgastroenteritis or food poisoning. Around 1800serotypes of this bacteria have been identified.negatively stained. Magnification unknown.
