The image showcases a remarkable sight - a P Class patrol boat with an observation balloon tethered to its stern. This unique combination highlights the innovative methods employed by the Royal Navy and RAF during this tumultuous period. The P Class patrol boats were specifically designed for attacking U-boats, which posed a significant threat to naval operations.
