Milan I, also known as Milan Obrenović III, was the last ruler of the Obrenović dynasty in the Principality of Serbia. His wife, Natalie, was the daughter of King Peter II of Montenegro, making her a member of a rival royal family. Despite the political tensions between them, Natalie was beloved by the Serbian people, particularly the students. When Milan I was overthrown and expelled from the country, the students rallied to protect Natalie and prevent her from being harmed.
