EDITORS COMMENTS
Naples, Italy - Posillipo and Villa Donn Anna: A Timeless Beauty Overlooking the Bay This image transports us back in time to the picturesque residential quarter of Posillipo in Naples, Italy, circa 1909. The photograph showcases the stunning Villa Donn Anna, an architectural masterpiece nestled on the site of the legendary 'Rocks of the Siren.' These rocks were once believed to be the enchanted dwelling place of the mythical Sirens, who lured sailors with their enchanting songs. The Villa Donn Anna, originally known as 'La Villa Sirena,' has an intriguing history. It changed hands numerous times before being inherited by Anna Stigilano in 1630. Anna, a woman of great beauty and charm, later married the Spanish viceroy of Naples. She commissioned the renowned architect Cosimo Fanzago to re-model the villa in the 1640s, and since then, it has been known as Villa Donn Anna. The villa, with its grandeur and elegance, stands proudly on the waterfront, overlooking the sparkling blue waters of the bay. The tranquil scene is dotted with traditional Italian rowboats, adding a touch of authenticity to the image. The terraced gardens, filled with lush greenery, cascade down the hillside, creating a breathtaking contrast against the clear, azure waters. As we gaze upon this photograph, we can almost hear the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore and the distant sounds of Neapolitan life. The Villa Donn Anna, with its rich history and timeless beauty, continues to captivate and enchant visitors to this day.
