Born in Antwerp around 1500, van der Muyden studied law at the University of Louvain and went on to become a respected legal expert in the Spanish Netherlands. He was a member of the Council of Brabant and served as the president of the Great Council of Mechlin. Van der Muyden's distinguished career was marked by his extensive knowledge of Roman and canon law, as well as his expertise in the field of criminal law. He was a prolific writer and published several important works on legal topics, including "De crimine falso incusso" and "De crimine lese-majeste." The intricately detailed portrait, which dates from around 1560, showcases van der Muyden's refined and sophisticated appearance.
