Unger played a significant role in the negotiations between Austria and the Ottoman Empire, which led to the recognition of Austrian sovereignty over the Banat of Temeswar. Count Karl von Clemens, also a trusted advisor to Metternich, was the Austrian Minister to the Russian Empire from 1856 to 1861. Clemens played a crucial role in maintaining the alliance between Austria and Russia during a time of political instability in Europe.
