Fernand Cormon was a French painter born in 1845. He is best known for his paintings of historical scenes, portraits, and genre scenes. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme. Cormon's work was exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1864 to 1889.
